When

This post stems from boredom.

When.  It's such a simple word, but it holds so much meaning.  It's used everyday by so many people.  When is the paper due?  When will you be home?  When do you want to see a movie?  When will it end?  When are you going to be feeling better?

When.  It is so futuristic.  It is like you know what is going to happen in the future so that you can put a date or a time stamp on it and make it final.  However, dreams are crushed when the deadline isn't met.  People cancel.  Due dates are moved.  Sicknesses aren't cured, if ever cured.  Things last longer than expected.

When.  It is one of the many question words:  Who, what, where, why, and how all keep it company as it is snuggled in the middle of them.  But perhaps we should look to the others and leave the time-keeping to someone else...
